Where to eat in West Cornwall

Updated: May 23, 2023

Over the last few years Cornwall has been steadily developing a reputation as a foodie destination. With celebrity chefs such as Rick Stein and Nathan Outlaw on the north coast, the focus has naturally been there but West Cornwall now has its own thriving food scene. From fine dining to quirky cafes, all with a focus on fresh, local ingredients, we're spoilt for choice.

Food with a view at Rock Pool Cafe in Mousehole

Here's a selection of some our favourite places to eat, all within easy striking distances of the cottages at Middle Colenso Farm.

The Victoria Inn, Perranuthnoe, Penzance, Cornwall TR20 9NP. Telephone 01736 710309

An award-winning pub situated a couple of miles away in the coastal village of Peranuthnoe serving local, seasonal food, excellent wines and local real ales. We like to work up an appetite by walking to Perranuthnoe along the South West Coast Path.

Tremenheere Kitchen, Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, Gulval, Penzance, TR20 8YL. Telephone 01736 448089, option 2

Delicious breakfasts, lunches and everything in between as well as dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. Situated at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens on the outskirts of Penzance.

New Yard Restaurant on the Lizard

The Cornish Barn, 20, Chapel Street, Penzance, TR18 4AW. Telephone 01736 339414

Restaurant and smokehouse in historic Chapel Street with a focus on fresh, Cornish produce. There's a great cocktail menu too.

Lovetts, 1 The Coombe, Newlyn, TR18 5HS

The latest edition to Newlyn's food and drink scene is a wine bar, cafe and bottle shop selling a fantastic range of natural wine. We love to pop in for a coffee or a glass of wine before heading to the cinema just up the road.

The Old Forge, Lelant, Hayle, TR27, 6JG. Telephone 01736 753696

The Vineyard Table is the restaurant at Scarlet Wines and serves fantastic pizzas and smaller rustic dishes inspired by the food of the Southern Mediterranean and Middle East. It also serves great breakfasts as well as afternoon tea and cakes.

Talay Thai Kitchen, Wharf Road, St Ives, TR26 1LF. Telephone 01736 795157

Thai street food and sharing menu and a great view of the harbour. Be warned, you can’t book a table so turn up early to make sure you secure your spot.

Rock Pool Café, The Parade, Mousehole, TR19 6PT. Telephone 01736 732645

Perched on the rocks overlooking Mount’s Bay, this quirky little cafe serves breakfast, lunch, cream teas http://www.rockpoolmousehole.co.uk.
