The personal touch: making your holiday at Middle Colenso memorable

We always like to go the extra mile to make sure our guests feel welcome so we were thrilled when we were recently awarded Airbnb Superhost status but what is it that our visitors like so much and what can you expect when you arrive at one of our cottages?

Since moving here six years ago, we've made our cottages the kind of places we'd like to stay ourselves. That means all three have stylish interiors and are fully equipped with everything you need for a memorable self-catering holiday. From crisp white bed linen to a decent set of kitchen knives, we've got all the basics covered but it's the little extras we think make all the difference.

Afternoon tea and scones
Home-made scones and fresh flowers are just some of the little touches that make our guests feel at home

Firstly, we've made sure the booking and check-in process are as smooth and hassle-free as possible. As soon as someone books, whether it's via Airbnb or our own website, we make sure you have all of the information they need about the cottage and the surrounding area and we're available via email or phone to answer any of the questions you may have about you stay.

All of our guests receive a code for the key safe so you can arrive at a time that suits you. We live on site and always try to be here to welcome people when they arrive. We won't intrude on your holiday but we're here if you need us, whether that's showing you how the cooker works or recommending somewhere to go for dinner.

Once inside, you'll find a Cornish cream tea laid out on the table. This includes home-made scones and jam, often made from our own raspberries, as well as clotted cream and milk from local farms and tea from the Cornish tea estate, Tregothnan.

We have a small cutting garden at Middle Colenso so there are always fresh flowers, too, and if you're here during the summer you may find us offering you some of the excess produce from our vegetable patch.

Let us know in advance if you're travelling with small children as we can provide a travel cot and high chair to save you the hassle of bringing your own.

Two of our cottages are dog friendly and your canine friend will receive a doggy welcome pack that includes a towel, blanket, poo bags and some delicious Cornish dog treats. Dogs are banned from some beaches during the summer so we've compiled a list of those that are dog-friendly.

We've always provided hand wash from Pure Nuff Stuff, the Penzance company based in Chapel Street's iconic Egyptian House, and this has proved so popular we've recently started putting a selection of their natural hair and body products in all the cottages.

Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned regular, there's always something new to discover in this part of Cornwall. We've compiled a guide to the area which includes our own personal recommendations: favourite places to eat, walk and visit. You'll also find a selection of guidebooks, as well as leaflets and brochures with details of local attractions.

Of course we know the weather isn't always perfect so we've made sure there's plenty to do in the cottages if your plans are rained off. Each cottage has a great selection of books, magazines, DVDs and games.

If you are heading to the beach we have bodyboards and beach games that you can borrow and when you come back there's an outdoor shower - perfect for washing off sandy paws and wetsuits.

If you prefer to stay closer to home, you can have some fun on our petanque court. You'll find boules and other games such as skittles in the box next to the gazebo.

We may be Superhosts but we won't be resting on our laurels. We're constantly making improvements and always welcome suggestions and constructive feedback as to how we can make your experience at Middle Colenso as enjoyable as possible.
